Born in Turkey, Can Yalcinkaya grew up reading stories of American superheroes, Italian cowboys, French adventurers and the Turkish underdog. He contributed to several fanzines, websites, books and periodicals, writing about comics, film and music. He was the editor ofYeni Seruven, a Turkish journal of comics studies, and co-edited Reading Between the Panels, a special comics issue of the Australian academic journal SCAN. His research interests include Turkish comics, humour, film, and popular music. He has a PhD in Media from Macquarie University. His comics have been published in the Turkish horror anthology Deli Gucuk:Zifirname (ed. Levent Cantek) and the Australian History Comic Anthology, Fluid Prejudice (ed. Sam Wallman). He is the editor of#ResistComics/#DirenÇizgiRoman, a comics anthology inspired by the Occupy Gezi movement.
